Twenty-three years in the United States Army (Airborne Infantry). Enlisted and commissioned. Served throughout the United States, Europe, and Central America.
Battalion, Brigade, and Division Staff Officer, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Airborne qualified with sixty-seven parachute jumps. Master Parachutist. Jumpmaster.
Company Commander, Headquarters Company, 18th Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Commanded 450 paratroopers.
Assistant Professor, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Taught hundreds of cadets how to think, communicate, and lead.
Course Director, Center for Army Leadership, United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Taught mid-level and senior-level officers to think, communicate, and lead.
Ran for the Utah House in 2016. Gained more votes than any Democrat in the history of the district.
Raised around the world. Grew up in North Africa and Europe. Father was in the Army Air Force and the Civil Service.
Have a bachelor’s degree from BYU, a master’s from USC, and a second master’s from UCLA.
Married my college sweetheart, Kathy Lynne Waite, nearly fifty years ago. Have six children and a bunch of grandchildren.
Have lived in Utah for twenty-seven years.
